Hi, my father is visiting me in canada and he's got some tooth infection and we dont have a coverage for him. What would be the best course of action in this situation?

Should i purchase a dental coverage? or go staright to dentist to have them take care of that? any idea of the costs?

many thanks

Its better if he gets it done from back home. Costs for dental care can be thousands of dollars, especially when it involves infection. I dont there there is any dental coverage for visitors due to cost of payout

Well, if your father is not eligible for a Provincial Health Care,I assume that he is a regular visitor, there is no way you can purchase Dental insurance from a private Canadian insurance company.

Your best shot is to go to a dental office and have his tooth examined first with a possible X-ray. The cost for such procedure is about $50. As for the infection, prices vary depending on a type of treatment needed i.e. surgery, antibiotics, etc.

But if you have an opportunity to go and have his tooth fixed somewhere else, where the prices are lower, you might want to do so.

Most private Visitors to Canada plans include coverage for dental emergencies, each company covering a different amount. Unfortunately, in your dad's case if he doesn't have insurance in place, this infection would not be covered, as it started before the effective date (if you were to buy one now) but for the future, you might want to look into getting him a visitors plan.
Cheers!

As others have said, unfortunately you'll have to pay for the costs out of your own pocket. It's very difficult to estimate the costs since we don't know how extensive a procedure your father will need to fix the infection.. It could be anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars to over a thousand.
