Hi,

I was hoping that somebody here could help me with this. In March of 2011 I attempted to enter Toronto through Michigan on a Greyhound Bus (I am a U.S citizen). Upon arrival at the border I was brought aside by an agent because I gave him the wrong address on the passport. They claimed that I didn't have any money, a destination or permanent residence in the United States. They referred to me as a "vagrant" because I didn't know the address of the home I was renting a room from (In the U.S) (I had just moved in a week or so prior to a trip to Toronto). Because they claimed that I didn't have any money or a destination, I withdrew some money and got on a city bus in Detroit that dropped people off at a casino in (Windsor) Canada only a few blocks from the border. They pulled me aside again, and this time they made me sign a form that said I wouldn't attempt to enter Canada again and they told me that I needed to get a Temporary Residence Permit or talk to the Canadian Consulate.

After returning home I sent a letter to the Canadian Consulate explaining the situation along with the $200 necessary to file for a TRP. They sent me back my money and wrote on the document "TRP not required for U.S citizens, only a passport". It seemed like they hadn't read my letter or something so I sent another letter and they wrote back "If you require criminal rehabilitation, please provide the following information.."

I'm not sure what to do now, I would really like to visit Canada (for tourism) but can't seem to enter the country. I now have my permanent resident address on my passport and have any documentation necessary to prove that I'm not a "vagant". I would like to enter Canada with my vehicle, but I'm concerned they will stop me at the border again as the agent told me that I would be arrested if I attempted to enter Canada again.

Do you have any advice about what I could do about this situation? Please let me know I would really appreciate it, thanks in advance.

-James
