Delay in processing spouse tourist visa

Hi,

I am currently in the US and I applied for the tourist visa for my wife and myself on April 22, 2014 as one application (one myCIC account). While I received a message on May 5,2014 to send my original passport, no such request came for my wife even after a week. So I emailed the consulate to inquire about my wife's status and got the following response:

Dear Sir/Madam,

A letter requesting you to submit your wife’s passport has been sent through your MyCIC account on: May 5, 2014.

If you have complied with the instructions no further action is required on your part.

We thank you for your patience. In order to efficiently process requests, we will not reply to duplicate emails.

Regards,

Immigration Section

Consulate General of Canada

New York, NY

I am thoroughly confused now as no such letter has been sent to myCIC account. I sent them a follow up email stating the same and asking if it would be okay to submit this email, along with the letter I received for my passport. I also want to ask the same question here as these guys took forever to reply to my first email and I am sure they are going to take an eternity (if I am lucky) to reply to my follow up email.

I am yet to receive my passport even though I sent mine as soon as I got the letter so I am wary of sending my wife's passport to them. She is going to be traveling to India in June last week and it would be too risky to send them given how long they take. Any thoughts? suggestions? anyone in a similar situation - how did it work out?

We have to be in Montreal on May 27 and I don't know how to expedite this.

Hi Regina,

Thanks for replying. Yes I have one account with 2 applications.

The thing is I did not get a letter specifically requesting my wife's passport. I only got a letter requesting for my passport. So when I sent them an email about this, that is when I got that reply. But again, I do not have a letter for my wife.

So should I just send them a copy of the email I got from them and my wife's passport and hope they stamp it?

Thanks again!!

Dear Sir/Madam,

A letter requesting you to submit your wife's passport has been sent through your MyCIC account on: May 5, 2014.
Who did write you this?

Look AGAIN under your wife's application on MyCIC. I know, their site is VERY confusing. But if they say they a request has been sent trough MyCIC- then it has been.

Hi I applied for TRV recently pending spousal sponsorship application and tracking VFS Canada Application Centre today shows status as below:
Your Decision has been dispatched from the Canada Visa Office, Singapore to the Canada Visa Application Centre DHAKA
My question is what does it mean? Is it kind of negative decision? I think package will arrive from Singapore VO next week. Any idea?

I got the email as a response to my inquiry I guess from the Canadian Consulate in NY. At least that is what the email says. I did check, double check, triple check myCIC account and there is no letter for my wife.

This is so confusing and frustrating. I don't know if I should take the risk of sending my wife's passport now given they took almost 2 weeks to return mine with the visa. She has to travel to India in June and we have to be in Montreal on May 27 (which now seems unlikely).

I did send them another follow up email but if their track record is any indication, I may have to wait a long time before I get a reply.

On the other hand, if they did send me a letter on May 5th and it somehow did not reach my account (which I know sounds bizarre) I only have 30 days to send the passport. If I wait longer than that, they may not even consider my wife's case.

I have done so many tourist visas and by far this is the worst.

Anyone in a similar situation?

Would it make sense to send the passport with the print out of the email I received?

Of course it would make sense, and that's the only way to go.

They said that they send it, you didn't find it, then send it with the mail by CIC. Sounds straight froward to me.

The worst case scenario is that the passport comes back with no stamp, which in any case would be the same that your actual situation.

Also attach the request you recieved for both. Maybe they are wondering why you only sent one. :)

And I think it's a matter of experiences, I have done also many VISAs and wish all were as quick, straightforward and simple as the Canadian ones.

Thanks Jalex23.

Your suggestion makes sense and I will go forward and send whatever I have. You are right, the worst case scenario is getting the passport back without a stamp which is no better than my current situation.

Wow.. you are one of those few lucky ones :) I know another couple who applied for the TRV before me and are still waiting for an update. I guess it is the randomness of the process and the lack of communication channels that is frustrating. Anyway, thanks again for your suggestion.

Hoping to get a stamped visa on the passport before 5/27. Fingers crossed :)

Just wanted to update - my MyCIC online account for my wife's application says approved. But the return shipment is not yet activated. I am guessing this will happen soon.

Thanks Jalex for your suggestion. It worked :D - although not in time. I had to postpone my trip to Montreal.

PS: I found it weird that I did not get an email about this. I just logged in to see what is going in with my wife's application and that was when I saw the approved status. I got an email for every step of my application but none for my wife ::) ::)
