Hello Pals, I would please like to find out from colleagues in this forum if it is possible to travel on a study permit even though you deferred to the following year.

My case is, I have gained admission to Uwindsor, with full tuition scholarship, which I can only retrieve whiles in Canada. Meanwhile, I have already applied for study permit and whilst I'm waiting for a decision on it, I would like to defer to September 2021 because of the current Covid situation globally and possibly to receive my entire scholarship. Thus, would it be possible to still travel when the opportunity presents itself despite my deferment to the following year?

Your insights will help me make the best decision on it. Thanks

A study permit issued after March 18 won't allow you to enter Canada at this point, and even if this is changed if you don't plan on attending classes your travel may be considered non-essential.

This leads to a second issue because one condition of the permit's validity is that you actively pursue full-time studies. If you didn't do that for the first year of your permit, you might face problems applying to extend it or for a post-graduation work permit.

I would recommend cancelling your application for a study permit and applying again next year if this is what you really want to do; if you still need to go to the university to sort out your financial situation with them you could do that as a visitor once the border reopens.
