Hello everyone. I'm an American married to a Canadian. Last April 2015 we sent in our outland sponsorship application. My wife was approved to sponsor me in about 60 days. Since then I have been checking my application status and a decision has just recently been made in Ottawa. Here is the process.

1. We received your application for permanent residence on April 28, 2015.
2. We started processing your application on July 27, 2015.
3. Medical results have been received.
4.We sent you correspondence on February 1, 2016. If you have not yet provided the information or the requested documents, please do so as soon as possible. Please wait until you receive the correspondence before sending us additional information, as the correspondence will outline all information that is required.

Decision made date is 21-02-2016

Line 4 they asked me to pay the Right to Permanent Residency Fee to continue processing. Just days after paying this fee I see in my application status a decision has been made. Not sure whats next or if it's a good thing.

Don't quote me on this, but it's almost certainly a very good thing. It suggests that you've been approved as a permanent resident, but they can't complete the permanent residency visa until the fee has been paid. There's no reason to ask for the fee if you've been rejected. (If you had paid the fee earlier, and the application was refused, they would have refunded the Right of Permanent Residency fee.)

My guess is congratulations are in order. Welcome to Canada.

Keep in mind, you still have a couple stages left before you actually become a permanent resident. They'll ask you to send your passport to them. They'll stick the permanent resident visa in your passport and return it to you. Then, you have to go to a US/Canada to do a "flag-polling", which is a fairly simply procedure to permanently land you in Canada. Once you enter back into Canada, you're officially a permanent resident.

OP is American, so they will not request his passport.

No. There is no visa to be stamped on the passport since he is from a visa exempt coubtry. They will send him his COPR shortly. After which he can land
