It's reasonably easy to guess what the decision is. CIC has an obligation to demand documentation, send procedural fairness letters to allow you to defend yourself or answer to concerns, request interviews, etc. Asking for documents is normal

If they have done none of those things, it's a positive outcome. Given that you have an in progress on the PR application side, you know it's SA.

Question in regards to this for me...as an American can I go up to the local border/visa office and get it stamped or do I have to send it off for the visa? We just submitted ours so we haven't even got any updates yet, but I'm wondering what's next.

us citizens only require a copy of their passport to be sent to get the approval paper known as COPR, and not all us applicants will get a ppr. some people just receive their approval paper in the mail. once you receive the COPR, you can go to the border and land there. you will have to actually drive to the us, tell them you want to "flagpole" to land as a pr, and they will turn you around back to canada.

Well, they continued to the PR application. If SA was not granted, then they generally wouldn't continue, unless you asked them to. And the result of that would be a refusal due to lack of Sponsorship. So, there is a pretty good chance that SA was granted, and they are now working on the PR application.

the sponsor should be receiving a sponsor approval letter soon enough. this will confirm what visa office is processing the applicant's application. with the new system, i'm not sure how much of a delay there is between status changing to DM and receiving the letter.
