Hello,

So my boyfriend lives in Montreal and we decided that it's best that I move to Canada once I am done with my degree. So I have a couple of questions:
1. I just started my Master's degree in the USA. I was debating for a long time between an MBA and the other option which is called Master's in Organizational Leadership. I decided to go for the MBA but now I am debating which is the best option for transferring to Montreal when I'm done. I still have the option to transfer to the other program and I have been reading that finding jobs for immigrants without a Canadian degree or Canadian experience is extremely difficult. Also, I am concerned because the MBA program is significantly more expensive than the MOL. I also read that MBA's in Canada are losing its value because you have a hard time finding jobs without Canadian work experience and people end up having to find "survival" jobs because you are too overqualified for a position that doesn't require an MBA. I am for sure going to finish my master's degree but I am wondering if it would be a better option to change to the MOL program for better success when I move to Montreal?

2. I also tried taking the pre-evaluation test and they said that I don't qualify because I am only intermediate French and to be completely honest, it's more like beginners. Any suggestions as to how I can get around being approved for moving after my degree?

Suggestions are highly appreciated! Thank you!

I am not sure how MBA is different from MOL , i assume MOL is more focused with some HR like specialization . What i have seen (not a first hand experience) ,Job market in Canada is not that lucrative as compared to US .Also i believe Canadian experience is just facade in today's global world i don't understand how country specific experience is relevant when all B schools and orgs are looking for Global exposure . Having said that i am sure Canadian companies will definitely reckon value of MBA from good Business school ..but don't expect salaries in big no's....
And since you are specifically looking at Montreal you need to have excellent french else MBA degree or other course will not be of much help :-((

So do you think that getting a Master's degree at this point is even worth it? I def don't think I'll be able to learn good enough french from here until a year. Or do you think just going with my undergraduate degree is a better idea?

Thank you for your imput!

It depends on what undergraduate degree you hold currently as well as work experience ...if you want to pursue or have career in customer facing roles and you want to settle in Quebec than learning french will be in short and long term ... if you are in industry like tech/programming you can survive with very little or no french...

it will depend on your short and long term goals ..HTH
