Hi everyone

Sorry I did research but still confused to specific answer... I have already meet the days to be eligible for my citizenship (I've been in Canada for over 8 years now) and I am planning to submit my application this month (our of Calgary). It seems as the process can take up to 2 years  how crazy!
My family lives in Tampa and I am planning to spend more time over there... so I need to know exactly how many days am I requested to be in Canada during the process?
My PR is valid till Jan/2018, I am applying for Nexus card.

I do intend to apply for an american green card, my mom can sponsor me and it seems that process takes up to 7 years... my understanding (seems obvious) is that I wouldn't apply to that until my canadian citizenship is done.... so either way I would to be in between the two countries for the time being, which is fine since I have my business in Canada, I just need to know exactly what "strategy" to have so I can plan the months our of the year, if they need to be consecutive days, do can I take 3 consecutive months there, 1 month here...etc...

I appreciate any and all help.

I do not believe that you are obligated to be in Canada during the processing time, HOWEVER, keep in mind the following points:

1 - Notify CIC if you are out of Canada for more than 2 months (in writing).

2 - Check your Ecas and ask someone to check your mailbox while you are away because that is how you will know that you have the Citizenship test. You will have to write the test in Canada.

3 -Check your Ecas and ask someone to check your mailbox while you are away because that is how you will know that you have the Citizenship Oath Ceremony. You will have to take the oath in Canada.

if they notice that you come back to Canada few days before the test they'll know you re one of those who apply-on-the-way-to-the-airport. Yes you can travel freely but make sure you spend more time in Canada than somewhere else. If they send you RQ you will be asked about where your family members live. So your mom, and God know who else, lives in the US and you spend a lot of time in the US... that means you have more ties to the US.

In these days, most of the application process are completed within a yea. So, after applying you should not be out of Canada for that long without valid reason (a vacation for few weeks is fine) before test. You can be outside as per law but your case will be on separate que for more screening/RQ and likely even delay more than 2 year, you never know..

Thanks for all the answers!
My mom, brother and his family, sister are all in the U.S., I do intent to spend many months there (probably all winter) because I can, my business and my lifestyle allows me to do that. That doesn't mean I am cutting ties with Canada, I have been in Canada for 8 years, absolutely want to have my canadian citizenship. I am happy to hear theres no specific amount of days required...I will be coming back here probably every other month during the entire year and spend summers over here too. So I guess I should be all good :)

Thanks again
