Hi Everyone,
Your two cents are needed. My niece got pregnant by her boyfriend while on going sponsorship by her mother here in Canada is in process. The family already underwent medical exam this December 2013.
What are the possibilities that they need to expect with this changes in their situation.
Thanks.

For just the prenancy - nothing is required.

If baby is born before her visa is issued, baby may need to be added to application as a new dependent.

Also if she gets married or becomes common-law with her bf, it may then affect her "dependent" status.

If the child is born, then the sponsor would now have to meet the LICO as well.

Change "may" to "will" and you are good. If the baby is born before they land, it will have to be added to the application. Not adding the baby would be misrepresentation and could cost the daughter her PR as well as she would never be eligible to sponsor her baby.

Ya I thought on the very off chance the boyfriend was a Canadian citizen so baby would already be Canadian and wouldn't need to be added as dependent... but guess that is not very likely.

Thanks a lot for the input guys.
Her mom can not make plans yet as of now until the Visa will be issued or grandchild will be born.

If baby will be born before the visa will be issued, and baby will be added as dependent, will that cost them longer waiting time?

Somewhat longer in order to get medicals for the baby but the medicals for a baby are usually simple and so it should not add much time.

If they get a passport request at such a time that they know she will not be able to make it to Canada before having the baby, they should not send their passports but advise the visa office that she is pregnant and will have to add the baby before their visas can be issued.

Just to add, depending on what province they are residing in, there may be a full 3 months wait for provincial health coverage. So even if they could get visa and land in Canada a few months before the birth, the potential cost of delivery could be incredibly high if there are any complications and daughter doesn't have healthcare.

For this reason, it may be better to aim to have baby in home country and add into application as dependent after.

Does not matter to use father or mother's last name.

You can not add an unborn baby to your application. You must wait until the baby is born. You can however notify CIC that you are pregnant and your due date and that you will be adding the baby to your file when it's born.
