Hello,I am American n my husband Canadian,We been together almost 6yrs ,married 2yrs this may,I have not started any paper work yet to move over with him(we live right on border 45miles apart) I been waiting for my daughter(age18) to finish here senior year this June and go off to college in Ny this fall,Ok my question is if I become a PR n move to canada can she go to college in NY and not pay extra fee for nonresident? I dont have to have her in canada with me if she is 18 and living in dorm at college? How do i put her on the PR paperwork? I never thought marrying someone just 45miles away would be so confusing

You'd have to check with her college, but I would assume if her address is in Canada, you're going to pay non-resident fees.

The forms you need are here, you would list your daughter as your dependent:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

But be careful, she must be under the age of 19 at the time of application. Once she's 19, she can't be sponsored as your dependent.

Your best bet is to have her as a non accompany dependent, therefore you will be able to sponsor her at a later date . If her residence is US it doesn't matter where your live that's where she will pay the tuition . She is American . If she came up to Canada without you getting Pr Then she would pay Foreign student rates.

Isn't it better for her daughter to be listed as an accompanying dependent instead even if she is studying in NY? This way, both OP and daughter are sponsored at once? Once COPR is issued, she can land and return to school and move after studies if she wants to.

If this is not possible or correct, can someone help explain why? Thanks.

I thought about that after i posted . As long as the daughter don't stay out of the country for 3 years and can fulfill her residency then i can't see why not.

Must be present in Canada for 730 days in every 5 years.
