What is the date of the application?

The date I signed it.
The date of the postmark (the date I sent it)
The date it is received
The date it is opened and first looked at

This is important - as it determines what the 10 year look-back period is.

Thanks

I would say, when you sign the forms. Imagine a change in your status AFTER you signed the forms and BEFORE you sent them to the CIC, for example the birth of a baby. Did it happen BEFORE your application or AFTER that?

I thing the date you sign and date you send them should not have big gap. It is within a day or two. Good luck

Hi,

Date of application clearly means the date on which you have signed the application, the date which is written on the application form. This is required by CHC for future references. For example, if you sign the application today, today's date is vital. You may send it after 2-5 or 10 days or so or they receive it after one month or so. It is just simple like writing a letter and putting date on that, I think so.

Cheers...

I am positive it is the date they received it. For example,in my case I signed the forms on the 19 of Feb 2008, but sent the application at the beginning of March, so They considered it post 28 Feb-2008 and was treated that way.

the date is determined by the day on which the application was received not by day of sign or day of post.

The date it's received. It't doesn't matter when you signed it or when you did send it or when it was postmarked. The date they have it in hand then that will be the processing date thereof.

usually it is the date when they get your documents, just like when you send an application for a job opening. Imagine there is a deadline, let's say Jan 15, you date and sign your application on Jan 10 and the same day you post it. They get your letter on Jan 16: they won't accept your application as it's arrived after the deadline, even if you sent it before.
Sometimes, usually for government positions, the application date is regarded as the date when you posted the application. In this case they accept it provided that the date precedes the deadline.

Thanks everyone. I posted a new topic with a more specific statement of my concern.
