Hello guys,

Can anyone tell me about the admission procedure of Dalhousie university's MACS program?

And what are those 3 special terms...

I will give plus 1 to each and every person who will reply

As someone who has an admit for the 2-year MACS program starting Winter 2017, I shall outline the process for you.

The 3 streams:

Project-based: You would do a project under the supervision of a professor in the department. Kind of like the final year project of engineering courses in India.

Internship-based: You would be allowed to interview for and get placed in a company, mostly located in Halifax, to do a 4 month paid internship with pay ranging from 17 to 25$ an hour. This is the most competitive for obvious reasons.

Entrepreneurial-stream: Any idea for a startup, or a product, or anything relevant like an e-commerce business. You would get some seed fund to kick start it. Didn't do too much research on it.

You don't have to decide stream while applying.

Admission process:
1.) Fill the Dalhousie Faculty of graduate studies on-line application and submit. Be careful since you can't change anything once submitted.
2.) Pay the 100$ application fee.
3.) Fill out the Faculty of Computer Science application form. Instructions are on the form itself and very self-explanatory.
4.) Upload supporting documents including IELTS results, Statement of Intent here.
5.) Pay careful attention to the CS background sheet that needs to be filled. They have provided a sample. Use that. Basically map their undergrad CS courses with your CS courses from your undergrad.
6.) Send two copies of your official transcripts to the faculty of computer science at 6050, university avenue, Halifax,NS
7.) Also send hard copies of reference letters and evaluation form if you didn't go for online reference option in step 1
8.) Have IDP or BC courier your IELTS results to the address mentioned in 6.

Once all documents are delivered, Dalhousie will update the portal with documents received and then 3 weeks later, you will get an e-mail from Vidhya Ramamoorthy if the CS department recommends your admission to the course.

1 week later you will get official admit letter from Faculty of Grad Studies.

Then pay the 200$ confirmation deposit and begin visa process.

PHEW! I'm tired....

Thanks for the info.. Its realy very helpful

Can you also give me an idea about research areas of MACS. Like which are easier to get admission and chances of getting artificial intelligence or algorithms as research area

As far as I know, MACS is not a research based program so that question is not really relevant for this program.

That is relevant for people applying for MCS.

I don't even remember what I filled out for research interests.

And I got an admit despite being from an ECE background.

You don't decide your stream beforehand. I think you decide it after completing one semester or after meeting with your graduate advisor once you're there in Halifax.

And again, MACS is not a research based program so there is no research area assigned

Is this mandatory to send IELTS result from IDP ? What if I send the certificate directly to the program? Also can you please say something about your statement of intent and what kind of research you said you are interested in ?

Thanks

If you send your own copy of results, What will you do if you need to show it somewhere else? Will IDP give you a duplicate copy? Plus I'm not sure if Dalhouse will accept it from you, they would want IDP or BC to send it to them directly in a sealed envelope.

You could ask them.

I didn't say I was interested in any research whatsoever, I described my previous work ex and explained how I'm hoping to gain knowledge and grow in my career.

I Have a question actually, my transcript does not show any Course code (it has only course Name). What should i do that to fill in the Background form ?
Did you write the Course codes ?
And the courses which i had in my undergrad, their years are not exactly matching with the equivalent courses of Dalhousie. So will it be an issue ? How was urs ?

I will send the photocopy with notary on it. I won't send the original one obviously. Just like we actually don't send the original Bachelor Certificate but send the photocopy one ...

You should fill in the course name, Mine had course codes so I wrote those. Basically they should be able to match with your transcript!

The year doesn't matter that much but obviously if you say that and advanced 4th year course in Dalhousie is equivalent to a 1st year course in your university, they won't really believe you. Does that make sense?

What i am thinking is to put semester numbers in the codes columnas it will be easier for them to directly look at my transcript in the respective semester. May i know h many courses u had that matched well with the Dalhousie worksheet ?

Thanks for your input .. It means a lot .. Another thing how much CGPA do they actually need for the admission ? My cgpa is total 67.40% in my undergraduate study.. Do I have any chance to get admitted with this CGPA ?

I was able to match 6 courses but my scores in those courses were between 85-90/100. I'm from an undergrad in ECE.

They gave me 6 additional courses to complete with the regular MACS program like subjects on Databases & Computer Networks which weren't in my undergrad.

Anyway, I'm not accepting their offer because the tuition fee is too high
