As someone who has an admit for the 2-year MACS program starting Winter 2017, I shall outline the process for you.
The 3 streams:
Project-based: You would do a project under the supervision of a professor in the department. Kind of like the final year project of engineering courses in India.
Internship-based: You would be allowed to interview for and get placed in a company, mostly located in Halifax, to do a 4 month paid internship with pay ranging from 17 to 25$ an hour. This is the most competitive for obvious reasons.
Entrepreneurial-stream: Any idea for a startup, or a product, or anything relevant like an e-commerce business. You would get some seed fund to kick start it. Didn't do too much research on it.
You don't have to decide stream while applying.
Admission process:
1.) Fill the Dalhousie Faculty of graduate studies on-line application and submit. Be careful since you can't change anything once submitted.
2.) Pay the 100$ application fee.
3.) Fill out the Faculty of Computer Science application form. Instructions are on the form itself and very self-explanatory.
4.) Upload supporting documents including IELTS results, Statement of Intent here.
5.) Pay careful attention to the CS background sheet that needs to be filled. They have provided a sample. Use that. Basically map their undergrad CS courses with your CS courses from your undergrad.
6.) Send two copies of your official transcripts to the faculty of computer science at 6050, university avenue, Halifax,NS
7.) Also send hard copies of reference letters and evaluation form if you didn't go for online reference option in step 1
8.) Have IDP or BC courier your IELTS results to the address mentioned in 6.
Once all documents are delivered, Dalhousie will update the portal with documents received and then 3 weeks later, you will get an e-mail from Vidhya Ramamoorthy if the CS department recommends your admission to the course.
1 week later you will get official admit letter from Faculty of Grad Studies.
Then pay the 200$ confirmation deposit and begin visa process.
PHEW! I'm tired....
