Hi folks,
I recently got my marriage certificate from Chennai for my marriage that happened in 2009. Noticed that both my and Wifes surname are updated as out respective Dad's surnames. This was because the Church father assumed that the Surname field in his register book next to 'Father's name' field was meant for father's surname, but was supposed to be the Brides and grooms surname. I am visiting the registrar back for correction, but i have been told that the corrections will be only added to the back of the marriage certificate. My dads Firstname has been merged with his middle name as well (Missing a space).
Will they ask for affidavit/Court order, Coz this is not a Name change. only a misunderstanding of the form by the registrar(church father).

Please share any inputs regarding the same.

P.S - I am getting ready for the FSWP opening May 13

Regards
AJ

When you go to the Registrar to get it corrected, ensure the Registrar does the following:
- on the front page, put an asterisk on each field where correction is necessary
- a note at the bottom explaining the asterisk ("see back of the certificate for corrections"
- at the back of the page where corrections are mentioned, ensure it is stamped and contains the original signature of the Registrar

This should be fine along with an explanation in your covering letter to CIC why the changes were made to the Marriage Certificate. You would not need a separate affidavit/court order.
