Hi Everybody

I was sponsored to come to Canada from Italy in 2018 by my wife (Canadian Citizen). After becoming a PR I found out she had an affair and decided to separate but to stay in Canada as I had sold everything I owned in Italy and more importantly left my job there.

I am now completing my tax return for 2019 and found out I am eligible for the Canadian Worker Benefit (CWB) and if I claim it I will get some money back from the government as opposed to pay some money in.

The question is, if I claim the CWB will they go after my now ex wife for the money?Does it fall under the sponsorship agreement clause?

thanks!

It's not welfare, so no, not a part of the undertaking.

Agree it is not welfare but you and your spouse need to show how you will be supporting yourselves without government help so you should prioritize returning back to work as soon as possible. Obviously I realize you may be on EI due to covid but compared to others you have more incentive to show that you are returning to work during th3 sponsorship process.
OP isn't in the sponsorship process. They are asking if the benefit falls under the undertaking already in effect.
