Currently on closed work permit and received AOR of PR want to get OWP

I am currently working in Canada on a Closed Work Permit and recently received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in April. I have submitted all the necessary documents and received an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) on May 1st. I would like to switch employers as I already have an opportunity in hand before obtaining my Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR). However, my Closed Work Permit restricts me to working only for the employer specified in the permit.

Is there a way for me to change employers at this stage by applying for OWP or other means ? If so, what steps do I need to take to facilitate this transition?

Depends which program you applied through and also whether you have claimed points for having a job offer.

Yes. Applied through express entry and also claimed points for job offer.

So then you cannot switch employers until you have PR.

Yes, once you have eCOPR you should be fine.
