My IEC visa expires in 3 weeks time but I was hoping to stick around to attend a conference at the end of the month.
I've been reading about 'flagpoling' - heading down to the border, exiting the country, then re-entering on a tourist visa - but opinions seem to vary on the specifics. Am I able to do this prior to my visa actually expiring (i.e. 'flagpoling' a week before it's due to expire)? What's entailed when I actually cross (I'd be looking to do it at Niagara, if that's any help)? Do I need to be formally rejected by the US border guards (people seem to have differing opinions on this)?
Thanks for any help.
