Hi, I'm just posting this for others who may find it helps them who may be in a position like me where we are getting CRS points for 1 year of Canadian Work Experience (but have not worked within our field for at least 365 days):

Website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/mi/express-entry.asp

Key points:
These Instructions came into force on May 30, 2015.
Note: As of May 30, 2015, all valid Canadian work experience will be recognized under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of Express Entry as CIC is removing the requirement that Canadian work experience be continuous. As a result, foreign nationals with Canadian work experience could see an increase in their CRS points.

Canadian work experience
(3) For the purposes of this section, Canadian work experience is work experience that:
(a) is acquired by a foreign national in Canada in one or more occupations listed in Skill Type 0 Management Occupations or Skill Level A or B of the National Occupational Classification matrix;
(b) consists of full-time work experience, or the full-time equivalent for part-time work experience, with one or more employers; and
(c) is acquired within the 10-year period preceding the day on which points are assigned to the foreign national under subsection (1).

Requirements
(4) In order to be assigned points under subsection (1) for their Canadian work experience, a foreign national
(a) must specify in their expression of interest the four-digit code in the National Occupational Classification that corresponds to each of the occupations they have engaged in while accumulating their Canadian work experience; and
(b) must have performed the actions described in the lead statement for the occupation as set out in the occupational descriptions of the National Occupational Classification, as well as a substantial number of the main duties, including all essential duties, as set out in the National Occupational Classification.

(5) For the purposes of this section, full-time work consists of at least 30 hours of work per week.

My takeaway; for CRS purposes, whole months (or part thereof) entitle an applicant to possibly 1 year of points (even if 365 days not accumulated), however I still think that if an applicant qualifies under CEC and FSW (as I and some others do), they may be able to satisfy FSW requirements (but perhaps not CEC requirements) without having actually worked for the 365 days.

Sorry if this was posted previously by someone else but I thought it might be useful in case others are in the same dilemma or not and might be thinking about declining an application due to thinking they may not have been correctly awarded CRS points.

Appreciate any thoughts/comments/suggestions.

Sorry for the long post.

Your application is assessed based on Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. Here what it says:

(2) A foreign national is a skilled worker if
(a) within the 10 years before the date on which their application for a permanent resident visa is made, they have accumulated, over a continuous period, at least one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work, in the occupation identified by the foreign national in their application as their primary occupation, other than a restricted occupation, that is listed in Skill Type 0 Management Occupations or Skill Level A or B of the National Occupational Classification matrix;

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2002-227/page-34.html

Noticed words continuous and at least one year?
Now CEC:

(2) A foreign national is a member of the Canadian experience class if
(a) they have acquired in Canada, within the three years before the date on which their application for permanent residence is made, at least one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work experience, in one or more occupations that are listed in Skill Type 0 Management Occupations or Skill Level A or B of the National Occupational Classification matrix, exclusive of restricted occupations; and

Thanks for your post. How about the changes that came into effect as of 30 May 2015 in the top section of the link in my post?

Also please note this post relates to CRS points (not requirements for FSW or CEC). I was asking my question in the context of satisfying CRS points requirements.

Continuous is droped for Canadian work experience because if you accumulated one year work in Canada (noc 0,A or B) you're automatially elligable for CEC. But you still need one full year, either for CEC or FSW.

Got it thanks. In my case I would satisfy FSW as the work experience was over 8 continuous years.

Thanks for your clarification.

If you want to use your Canadian experience only for EE selection points and not for FSW points, than I can't comment on that as I don't know how it works (I applied under old system).

Hi JoacRy,

Thanks for the post.

Have a question on the same based on my canadian work experience. (under proper work permit and SIN number)

Company A duration - Sep 22nd 2008 to November 28 2008 (37.5 hours a week)
Company B duration - Jan 5th 2009 to November 5th 2009 (37.5 hours a week)

There is a gap of one month between both experience, not continous.
But put together its 1+ year (53 Weeks)

Can I claim 40 CRS points for the one year Canadian work experience under FSW?

Thanks in advance
