Hi, I sent in my pr application in january, the sponsorship part of it has been approved and we are just waiting on the rest. My concern is our upcoming trip to canada to visit friends for a few weeks. Is there going to be any issue with me crossing the border while it is pending? What will I need to bring with me? We are driving up so I won't have a round trip ticket to prove that I am going back. Will the border guards even know that I have submitted a pr application? Is this automatically in the system when they scan my passport?

The key is not to introduce doubt that you are moving. Be upfront with them that you are just visiting. They may ask you about ties to the US. Make it very clear that you are visiting upfront. Having your other half with you to vouch for you can also help. Since you are driving, put a folder with a copy of your application, lease agreement or property tax bill, pay stub, anything else that shows your ties to the US. Also, avoid the urge to start moving household stuff up with you.

Take a look at GOGOGO's experiences.

Bring your fees receipt from your PR application. This is just a visit so they should not be concerned. You aren't coming here with a U-haul full of furniture.

we usually don't encounter any issues while crossing the border. I will have my husband with me. We have money to support ourselves, and just signed a lease on a new place. He has pr status in the states and we have been going back and forth visiting often without any issue. I am mostly wondering if they will automatically know that I have applied for pr status when they scan my passport. If not, I am thinking it is probably best to just not mention it.

I can't say for sure from a scan of your passport but they might because if they enter your name in the GCMS system they will see the application is in process. Just bring the fees receipt with you, give them it IF they ask for it and tell the truth. You'll be fine.
