Hello,
I have seen that, most of these issues are not discussed in this forum. I am sure some of you may have gone through below scenarios.
I became PR back on Sept 2015. I stayed for 3-4 days and came back to US. Currently I am L1A visa holder on USA. I plan to move permanently to Canada on Jan/Feb 2016. I have few questions in this regard.
a) I have decent amount of investments in US like stocks and 401(k). I have made capital gains from the time i became PR. I believe since i dont have any ties to Canada yet ( no bank account/ no job ) ( I do have SIN ), i have to pay zero taxes ( in Canada ) for 2015. Have you had experience with a good cross border tax investment firms, if so, can you list?
b) I plan to convert my 401(k) to RRSP. I am aware that i wouldn't get tax credit, but would be adjusted against my taxes. I haven't opened IRA account to facilitate transfer into RRSP account. My employer doesn't allow me to transfer funds to IRA account, unless i leave the company or US. Have you used any wealth management companies in this regard?
c) Now coming to wedding, as you know weddings are expensive, and we are trying to keep our expenses short, so that i can start sponsorship visa as soon as i am back to Canada next year. Do i have to notify authorities as soon as i am wed? Is there anyplace on online i need to update?
Suggestions/advises?
Thanks
Nara
