Criminal Record Check

Hello,

I will be sponsoring my wife. We both currently live in Korea and plan on heading back next August. My wife had lived in Toronto for 11 months about 10 years ago. I thought that because of this she had to get an RCMP criminal records check, but I was informed by the embassy that it was not needed. This seems strange because on the document checklist provided by Immigration Canada there is a section which included the criminal record check. It would be very nice to not have to go through the hoops of getting a check done, but I would rather do that than be informed later that it has to get done. If anyone has experience relating to this please let me know. I want to get started on the application ASAP.

Thanks

They might not need one for Canada but they will surely need one form Korea .

They (CIC) will request the crim check from the RCMP themselves if they require it. You will need one from Korea and any other country where your wife has lived for 6 months or more since the age of 18. I know some people go ahead and do the crim check for Canada as well which won't hurt you if you choose to do it. But it's not necessary.
