Credential Assessment before May 4th?

Dear All,

Firstly i must say that this forum is awesome. I have been thinking of canadian immigration for the past 2 months and have started working on it. As a first step, i completed my IELTS and got a score of 7.5 (Booked for IELTS early in December 2012 as Canada announced at that time that it will open by Jan 2013). Unfortuntely it only postponed later the reopening date to May 4th 2013.

I tried to search for the information below and couldn't find. So i hope you wouldn't mind opening a new topic for these questions:

1. As May 4th is when Canada starts accepting applications, is it recommended to keep all docs ready (as per document checklist given in cic.ca) and apply well before May 4th?

2. I heard from this forum that we are expected to have educational credentials assessed by an external authorized assessment agency. Is it recommended to have them assessed well before May 4th? Does it have some kind of validity period as IELTS/Police clearance certificates do have?

3. Do we really need an Immigration lawyer to proceed with our application? I understand that this question is debatable. But i want to know whether this immigration process is quite complicated a process that desperately needs a lawyer to move the application?

Yes, it is recommended to apply for educational credentials assessment as soon as possible. They will take their good time, so make sure you file is ready before May 4. Otherwise file intake is very limited, cap will be reached at lightning speed. I am not sure about validity part, IIRC I read 3 years somewhere on this forum. Process is not very tough, but requires attention and focus, Make sure you prepare work experience etc in proper format and submit all required stuff.

Hello Pradip,

1. You should get all the documents ready but you CAN NOT apply before May 4.
2. YOu need to get your educational credentials assessed before you can apply. But, such assessments will be done by agencies designated by CIC to do so. Unfortunately CIC hasn't given a list of such agencies, so you need to wait until that info comes out before you can assess your credentials.
3. Once all the rules are given out by CIC, the process will not be complicated. If you do your homework and gather as much info as you can from CIC's website and these forums, you should do fine on your own.

so should we wait untill CIC releases list of authorized agencies?? it high time now to announce it... i am also confused in same way. and the cost of ECA evaluation is also high... pls suggest me what should i do?

Is it likely that the agencies listed in the link are outdates and that new agencies to be posted? Any idea when this activity would happen, given that this takes atleast a month to process?

Jason Kenny just announced the list of ECA agencies and the occupation list will both be announced in April. So, anything otherwise is not true.
