Hello,

Can someone please elaborate on this? I'm in NOC: B (2282 User Support Tech). I checked the work BC site for my NOC and saw that there's a provincial certificate for people in my particular job. Does this mean if I get certified in this, I can get more CRA Points?

Details on the certificate:

  • completion of a post-secondary program and at least two years of industry work experience leading to certification as a technologist or technician with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC)
Certification is not mandatory, but it may increase work opportunities. For more information, see the ASTTBC website at www.asttbc.com.

7) Do you have a certificate of qualification from a Canadian province, territory or federal body?
Note: A certificate of qualification lets people work in some skilled trades in Canada. Only the provinces, territories and a federal body can issue these certificates. To get one, a person must have them assess their training, trade experience and skills to and then pass a certification exam.

People usually have to go to the province or territory to be assessed. They may also need experience and training from an employer in Canada.

This isn’t the same as a nomination from a province or territory.

Thank you.

What certificate? I'm not aware of a skilled trade certificate for user support.

A skilled trade certificate is like a "power engineer," "electrician." or "architect" certificate.

Based on the link you provided, unless you have highly specific technical experience, I do not believe you would be able to get a recognizable trade certificate. ASTTBC's website is here: https://asttbc.org/ see if you can find how you could register.

No.

The points are for trades certificates. Your job is not a trade so no points.
