Hi, I have question regarding country specific application.

my wife is Russian citizen but currently residing in US as visitor for about 5 months.
I spoke with one lawyer and was told that immigration office may assign her either to US or Russia for an interview and advised to fill out and mail
both Russia and US country specific documents, so we'd be covered in either case.
Wanted to get opinions on this. Will it hurt the application or not. any thoughts?

thanks in advance.

No she is Russian and will have to fill out the one for Russia she is not a resident of the US so she has to fill out that one and if required will have to go to the visa office resposible for Russia which i think is Moscow. If she was in the states as a valid visa holder and the visa is good for a year then she can apply through the US.But she still has to fill out the country specific form for Russia.

She has a valid visa in us for 1 year but it's running out in October of this year.

Well she needs to keep it valid while she is going through the process. If she cant and has to leave the US back home you might as well apply outland through Moscow unless she can get a visa for Canada. If they have to transfer the file back home because she has no longer a valid visa for the US it takes a long time for them to transfer files between visa offices.

She can choose either embassy as she was legally admitted to the US for one year. However, if you choose Buffalo, you only complete the region specific forms for THAT visa office.
