Countries that can enter Canada with an eTA - max 6 months?

If someone (for example Japanese) enters Canada with an eTA, I believe they will be given 180 days to stay. With the 180 days expires, is it possible to just go to the US and re-entry to get another 180 days? Or does it mean they can only stay in Canada 180 days each year?

I think it depends whether the CBSA officer dated your passport for each entry.

You could apply to extend while staying within Canada instead.

Apply to extend your status from within Canada. Don't do a border run. Border runs have a much higher risk of going the wrong direction.
