Hi everyone!
This is quite an informative forum and I wanted to seek the help of its members.
Could someone give me an idea about the appropriate budget for life in Toronto?
We're a family of 4. (A couple, an 18-year old and a child)

I would think that having an 18 year old son would mean that they would contribute to the household income, right?

I'd like to find out about the average cost in a suburb (not downtown) preferably in North York or the decent parts of Scarborough concerning (accommodation, food, hydro, gas and water, tv/phone,...etc.)

I'm asking this to find out how much the 3 of us need to earn combined BEFORE TAXES, so if anyone could provide a rough amount, I would highly appreciate it.

2 bedroom rental costs - starts from 1300 (incl hydro, heating & water) /3 bedroom rental cost - starts from 1600 (incl hydro, heating & water)
Internet bill: $50 per month
Mobile bill: $50 per month
Food: $600
Coin laundry: $120 per month
Transportation: 141.50 (monthly metro pass)

$2500 per month is a realistic minimum cost of living for a family of 3-4, and goes up depending on how you choose to live, and from where you buy your stuff ..etc.

Coin laundry: $120 per month

It costs $120 for laundry ? Is it not around $2 for one laundry like in US

it ranges between 2.5 to 6.0 per wash depending on the washing machine size. drying costs 25c per 15 mins. a good detergent would cost around $16 (60 washes)... it all adds up.

Could cost you less, depends on how frequently you need to wash..etc. my average was 20-30 per week.

Hi! Thanks a lot for answering. I was more under the impression that at least $5000 would be needed. When you say $1600 (incl utilities), is that in a good neighborhood?
You're giving me more hope that it is more possible to get by.

What speed will I have for $50?

Mine is 25mpbs/10 mbps with unlimited download, however you have a range of options, just to name a few:

https://www.acanac.com/internet-ontario/

https://teksavvy.com/en/residential/internet/dsl

https://callmeplease.yak.ca/Offer/DSL/T/1/default1.aspx?_vsrefdom=cpc-google&gclid=CJ_B3ffv2MkCFZAAaQod5N8A0w

Don't rush and make sure you know all the details before signing any contract (sales people will do whatever it takes to sign you up).
