Cost effective way to move from bay area to Vancouver

Hello all,

I am currently working in Bay Area and will be moving to Canada on temporary work permit. Wanted to see the best way to ship our stuffs. Most of the international movers are charging close to $4K even for the basic stuffs. Any suggestions would be of great help.
