Hello,

Is it safe to give a copy of my PR to a real estate broker?

Is that something normal to be asked?

Best regards,
Elbob

No need to give a real estate broker a copy of your PR. You can buy a property without being a resident. Don't be fooled..

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not even buying .. I'm just renting .. but she asked for it on an email.

I dont quite remember if i was asked to provide my PR when i signed the contract.

I think the driver's licence+ provincial health card should be enough..

She may want proof that you are in Canada with legal immigration status.

A number of countries are already starting to do this for rented property.

However, check out https://www.priv.gc.ca/index_e.asp

Landlords are nuts. Ive had landlords ask me for my full creditcard number and expiry date! Take is as a sign to rent someplace else. You don't need an insane landlord. You can show them your PR if they want proof of identity and you dont have a drivers license, but dont give her a copy of anything.
