convert open work permit to work permit

Hi

Does anyone know if I can change an open work permit into a work permit with LMIA/LMO from within Canada?

Background:
I just came to Canada with an open work permit on the back of my spouses clergy visa = His has a visitors record with ability to work without a permit (IMM 1442B)
However I am a doctor and have an offer to work at a clinic - my LMIA and medical are in process but unfortunately were not ready for me to apply for my work permit as I entered Canada.
So now I have to try to change my open work permit IMM 1442B into a work permit once by LMIA and medical are processed.


Any ideas on what is the best way to do this? What form do I need?

I think it is possible with an IMM 5710 but wanted to ask if anyone else had done this or knew if this was the correct way to do it..?

You can't "convert" an open work permit into a close work permit. Instead, you must apply for a new (closed) work permit. So you follow the normal process used to apply for a work permit:

Does that mean I apply for it by online/post and then once the visa comes through I then reenter Canada?

OR could I just go across the border with all my paperwork and the IM1295 forms filled out and get it issued?
Nearest border to me is to drive to Montana
