Dear All,

I would be landing in Canada (under Skilled Worker visa program) along with my family, for the first time in December (not an ideal month i know ! )

Instead of starting of with work, i plan to start with some studies related to my field (Accounting & Finance) and then start looking for a job. Now i've heard that Canadian government helps people in studying ahead and for this, they even pay for your fees. First of all is this true?

Secondly, have heard that if you are already working somewhere there and then decide to quit your job and start studying, then in this case you have to do all this on your own and the government will not help you on this. Is this true?

Thirdly, If the Government really helps you in starting your studies once again, then who should you approach for this and what are the necessary steps in this regard.

Fourthly, if immediately after landing, i plan to continue with my studies and the government also helps me with this, then who supports the family. Does the government also gives you a kind of monthly allowance to help you with running of your house or for that you need to do some part-time job.

Please help me out here and thanks in advance for your reply !

No - the government will not pay for your studies. The government helps you to pay for your studies yourself by assisting you in getting a bank loan to fund your tuition. You are responsible for paying this loan off once you finish your studies. Each province/region of Canada has its own loan program. In Ontario for example, this program is called OSAP. More information is available here:

https://osap.gov.on.ca/OSAPPortal

Note that you must live in Canada for a year before you can qualify for loans under the OSAP program. So you won't be able to take advantage of this program as soon as you land in Canada.

You will be responsible for supporting your family while you study. The government does not provide a monthly allowance.

Thanks very much for the info scylla.
Although this is sort of a bad news for me, but what to do, rules are rules.

One last question. As per Canadian Law, can we work and study at the same time. Hope this is ok with them.

As a PR you can work, study, do anything you want at the same time.
