Contacting your MP

Hi all!

My husband (us citizen) and I (canadian) are questioning if we should contact our MP about our application at this time.

We submitted our app in September 2011 (outland) and it went to Buffalo Jan, 2012. From there they transfered it to Ottawa and now to LA.
At this point it is almost 17 months and nothing... we're at the breaking point but not sure if talking to an MP about our situation will help or will even get us any answers. We've emailed 3 times since the 12 month mark with generic responses saying it is in quench and they will work on it.
Has anyone else contacted their local MP in Ontario and has any luck?

Thanks!

Hey,

Sorry to hear that your application is taking so long. Ottawa is stated as 13 months processing time on CIC website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp

Your file reached Buffalo in january 2012, it's not Feb 2013 - you've reached the 13 months limit, so I think it is reasonable to contact your MP and ask them to enquire. Not all MPs are willing to help, or able to get answers, but there is no harm in trying, especially if you have been waiting so long.

I haven't contacted my MP as I was processed quickly, but I have read of others doing it with some degree of success, so I think it is a good idea to start enquiring.

Good luck,
Sweden

definately contact your MP. Some are better than others. Dont expect any miracles !!!!!
They will make a phone call/e-mail and find out whats going on.

MP's need to know what is going on, and if we dont let them know, things will not change.

Wait times are longer than ever ! Good luck !

Definitely contact your MP. If they are unwilling to assist try one from another riding.

Thanks all I think we will try to contact them.

Question about the timelines then... our application was sent to Mississauga for me to be approved as a sponsor September 2011, then I was approved November 2011. Then the website stated that our application was in process Jan 2012. Buffalo timeline used to be 10-11 months (from what I remember) so is it the 10-11 months from when they say they received the application on the website or from the beginning? Also, with the application being moved to ottawa and now LA, how do I know what the average timeline is? Which one do we go by? So confused :)
