I'm looking for sponsor my conjugal partner into the family class for permanent residence. However, my partner was in South Korea as a tourist but overstayed by 2 weeks, got into a fight with a local, jailed, then deported. This was also 4 years ago, just shy of the 5 year mark which seems to negate (if any) inadmissibility arising from this. I don't know if there was ever a conviction or not
Since immigration Canada is asking for only police records of their home country, will they know of the deportation and jailing in South Korea as a tourist? The criminal record of the home country will be completely clean.
