Confusion with PR expiry

Hi,
We did soft landing at Toronto in March 2020. Due to the pandemic we received the PR cards very late in September 2020 so the PR card expiry date is September 2025.

Have few queries.

1. Now my confusion is does the PR status expire in March 2025 or September 2025?

2. Also for the residency requirements do we have to complete 730 days by March 2025 since we first landed on that day or September 2025 since our PR card expires during that time?

PR status does not expire, only the card does. March 2025 is relevant as the end of your first five year period, after that date, all calculations for residency obligation are on five year look-back basis (as of any date).

Right now and until March 2025, relevant period is always March 2020-25.

September 2025 relevant only in one immigration sense, that is last date your card will be usable to board an airplane (basically).

The 730 days: I find it easier to consider that you must have less than 1095 days outside of Canada in any five year period (this is just arithmetic restatement, 5 * 365 - 730 days = 1095 days).

So simply put - until March 2023 you will not be out of compliance.

Warning: return earlier and as early as possible. There are lots of inconveniences that arise for those cutting-it-close, and this forum is full of sob stories from those who soft landed, planned to return, and then 'something came up' and then problems started. It's always useful to have a buffer.
