Hi,
I am a working research technician. I applied for a work permit on April 21 and got it approved on May 25, 2023. But the full-time job started on May 1, 2023, and ended on April 30, 2024.
My questions are:
a) Whether I should count the working hours from April 30, 2023, on which my job started or from May 25, 2024, when I received my work permit.
b) Secondly, I took 4 weeks of unpaid vacations in Feb 2024. Will it be considered work experience or not?
c) Please suggest how many more weeks are needed so that one year of work experience can be met to meet the express entry criteria.
Thanks

Hi,

You can start counting your work experience from the day you apply for your work permit as your status changes to implied status. Unpaid vacation doesn't count towards work experience. Lastly, in order to calculate if you have met the 1560 hours condition with maximum 30 hours per week, you can start calculating your hours from the day you applied for your work permit if your work was under the NOC code. it doesn't have to be full time so even if you were working under the same NOC with less than 30 hours, it's counted.
