Hi Guys,
Could really do with your advice. I am married to a landed immigrant but we have been living outside of Canada for 10 years now. I am an Irish/British citizen. My husband became a landed immigrant when his parents moved to Canada when he was one, he was there until he was 35 and then moved to Ireland where he met me :D Unless you have been on another planet you would be aware of the situation in Ireland at present and we have a little girl that we really don't want carrying the weight of what the greedy bankers have created into the future!!! We want her to have a life!! The plan is for him to go over first and get set up, with us possibly to follow in the months to come. He has the possibility of walking into a job straight away. Will he have any issue with doing so or has he been out of the country for too long. I may add his family all live in Canada but we wouldn't want to put them out in anyway if possible.

From Wiki'
The term "Landed immigrant" is an old classification for a person who has been admitted to Canada as a non-Canadian citizen permanent resident.
The current official classification for such a person is simply "permanent resident".

Did he become a citizen?
If not, being out of Canada so long will have meant that he is no longer a PR and have to reapply.

When you say "landed immigrant" do you mean that your husband was only a permanent resident - or did he obtain Canadian citizenship?

See this Information.

I'm sorry, yes I did mean PR. Sadly :(
He never applied for citizenship in all the years he was living there as it didn't occur to him that he would ever have an issue :(
His parents only applied themselves a couple of years ago when the new regs came in! Will the fact that his family are all there help his case at all?

I assume he will still have to reapply for PR.

Good to know, thanks for replies, was just hoping not to add to the red tape already insuing with my journey! Would have made the transition a little easier to deal with!! Thanks ;)

Sounds like you will have to apply for PR if you want to go to Canada and it is not always easy. Depends on if you are in the right line of work or able to get a job offer etc.

If his parents live in MB or SK, they may be able to sponsor him and your family through the provincial nominee program, family stream.
