Confused, whether eligible for CEC or not

Hi,

I want to apply for Canadian immigration. I am confused whether I need to apply under CEC or Skilled workers category.I'm working on a service company and my client is Nortel (now Avaya). I had been to Canada 3 times on Work Permit through my service company on project basis and have worked in Nortel/Avaya clients location. Eveytime my project duration stay was 6-9 months and my overall stay (counting all 3 times visit) in Canada counts 2 years.
July 2005 - March 2006 (8 months)
Oct 2006 - July 2007 (9 months)
July 2009 - Feb 2010 (7 months)

At present I am at my home country.

My doubts are
> I had not been in Canada continuously for 2 years.
> Though I worked in Nortel/Avaya customer place, I worked as a contractor on workpermit and not as an employee of Nortel/Avaya. I was working for my company only. My salary was paid by Company in CAD and I filed canadian tax all three years through canadian T4.

Do I qualify to apply under CEC?

Please help.

Thx

Hi Mr. Belleville, sorry, for the CEC, the 2 years of work experience has to be within 3 years of the application date; it looks like only 12 months in the past 3 years. It's not clear either whether your work would qualify for other reasons (type of work permit), but from what you say, you did not have a Canadian employer, so that would not qualify.

Not sure what your occupation or NOC code is, or whether you have any chance under the Skilled Worker program...

Is there any chance that Nortel/Avaya would offer you a full-time permanent job?

Hi jes_ON,

First of all, my profound thanks to you for your kind reply. Unfortunately, Nortel/Avaya will not offer me a full-time permanent job.
I am working as a project lead and do the job what a manager can do. However, I doubt whether I would still qualify under Skilled Worker program as it specifies only managers and not leads. However I am waiting to see what occupation in demand list Canadian immigration is going to put forth this month. Any idea about that?

Thanks again!

No, no idea about pending changes, other than the list is likely to be reduced. Other than looking for a job in Canada, not sure what to suggest.
