Hello,

We are going to apply for citizenship in June 30 since we satisfied our residency obligation for application however, we have to leave Canada in early August for at least two years.
I understand I have a good friend's mailing address for this application.

Our PR card is going to expired in Dec 01 2014. I do not think we are able to get our citizenship status before that so we are coming back to Canada to apply for renewal of PR card before expiration of current card
and leave Canada again. I understand if CIC ask me to pick up new card I will do so by flying back here.

i am wondering when I come back to Canada for citizenship test and for ceremony if I will have any trouble in border....
I assumed I may enter Canada twice sometimes 2014- 2015 June (but leave Canada in a week) since current processing time for citizenship application takes 21 months.

My questions is,
Do you think as long as I can prove I had residency obligation for a minimum of 730 days within the past five (5) years when entering Canada, I will not have any trouble enter Canada?

We landed in Oct 2009.

7 days in 2009
240 days in 2010
330 days in 2011
365 days in 2012
210 days in 2013 (scheduled till August)
0 days in 2014
0 days in 2015
1152 days total since gaining PR status.

For example,
Assume I have to come back to Canada in 2015 April and June and I can show immigration officer that I have a history of residency of over 905 days last five years 2010 June- 2015 June.
Is this fine for entering Canada?

my understanding is that PR card doesn't represent your PR status, but a travel document, just like your passport, If you hold a expired PR card , attempting to enter Canada, my guess is you will have a hard time regardless of whether you can prove that you have met residency obligation. Someone please correct me if that is a misconception.

Thank you for your post, SuperDude,

Yes, that's why I would like to renew my PR card before current one expired by entering Canada. I know that we can submit our renewal application one year before expiration of current one.

Thank you.

Looking for some more advise and info!

just saw a thread in another forum yesterday, saying there is a new policy in effect for PR card renewal. you have to provide a permanent address at the time you renew your card and CIC will mail the card to that address. CIC is aiming to put a stop to people coming back to renew card and leave right after. They want you to stay! I am not sure how CIC is going to enforce this new policy but I am sure it will put a layer of complication to your plan.

CIC will ding you on anything right now, the worst thing can happen to you is RQ. as long as you meet the 1095 citizenship obligation and your PR status is valid by the time, I don't see why they will give you any trouble ( ie. rejecting your app) . Good luck.
