Heya Ppl,

I have some doubts on applying for citizenship. I have a PR visa and i saw that v shud b staying 3 years to apply for citizenship and the processing takes up to 25 months. Since the PR visa is valid only for 5 yrs if ive applied for citizenship and my application is not yet processed at the end of 5 years who do i do...? hw does that work. do i need to return back or can i stay bac coz ive applied for citizenship???

Pls throw some light on it...and clear my doubt.

Citizenship does not stipulate that you have to stay within the country. But all communication will be only to a local address.
You have to maintain your PR requirement (2 out of every 5 years). If your PR card expires then you have to renew your PR card.

While it does not states that you have to be in Canada, it does seem to imply that you are suppose to be in Canada when you do apply. Plus if you went out after you applied for citizenship for so long even if you were able to stay out 3 years within 5 year only to come back for test and oath, you are likely to get RQ and have some explaining to do to an CIC agent as to why you were out so long shortly after applying for citizenship.

Your PR status has absolutely nothing to do with your PR card's validity/expiry. You will lose your PR status if do not reside two years out of five revolving years. Don't worry -- even if your PR card expires, your PR status is unaffected as long as you continue to live in Canada. So if your PR card expires before your citizenship application is approved, you may choose to renew your PR card.

I hope that helps.
