Confused about misrepresentation

Hello, I have put myself in a bad situation. I visited Canada 20 years back and did apply for immigration later that year but did not pursue it. For the sake of simplicity, on the TRV application last year, I did not declare this and said never traveled to Canada. I am being sponsored by my son in Canada and the sponsorship should come in within the next few months. Now my quandary is how to proceed with the application kit. Do I continue with the lie or do I report the facts truthfully. And what happens if the lie is discovered? Please help.

Dear sir, in my opinion you should tell the truth. Because I think they will come to know about your visit and then it will be too late. As far as I know misrepresentation may lead to rejection of your request. This is only my opinion you should wait for more comments from senior members.

Whatever the consequences it would be you should never lie or hide any information/fact, in the IMM forms. The declaration is being signed by you stating that the details furnished are true. Even if you succeed in getting your PR after hiding the details, there can be possibilities that once the truth will be detected and you can be charged as a violator. I cannot say what will be the result. However, taking a chance at this stage cannot be recommended. So the remedy is to submit the application with correct information. Also attach a covering letter with it showing your deep regret and apology towards the previous omission. Try to emphasis that it was not done wilfully and intentionally. Keep a photocopy of the complete kit with the letter for future proof. Perhaps the IO will not go deep into that point and your application may be considered favourably. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate that. I have one more question. HOW exactly do they find out about my visit 20 yrs back? Do they ask for all previous passports during the immigration process?

Another question, if I be truthful and send a covering letter with all relevant details, next time I apply for a TRV, what are the chances of it being refused and would I face a ban? Would that ban apply to immigration as well or just TRV?

Where specifically in the either/both of the TRV and PR application forms were you required to disclose a previous visit to Canada?

You are right, the Canadian TRV application form does not ask for previous visits but it is 12 (e) that I am worried about. I did apply for PR 20 years back and did not disclose that when I applied for my first TRV couple of years back.

There's no need to disclose previous visits to Canada, or even previous PR applications.

You are obliged to disclose if you have ever been denied entry, or ordered to leave Canada (or any other country), but that doesn't apply here from what you've said.

It's a non-issue. Stop worrying about it.
