I am living in Lebanon with my husband and Damascus want proof that I will return to Canada. So I sent them a copy of my ticket, a job offer and a letter stating I will be living with my parents. And I am now back in Canada. My husbands medical expires on May 18th, 2010... Will they make him redo the medical or will the give him the visa before that...also, if they make him redo the medical how long does the medical usually take... are we going to be apart for a long time??

The Immigration Officer has the authority to extend the validity of a medical up to an additional 4 months. I cannot guarentee that this will happen - however you can email Damascus to ask that they advise if a new medical will be needed.

If a new medical is requested, it takes approx. 3 months for the results to be reviewed by the visa office.

Is it common for the Immigration Officer to extend the Medical or does this rarely happen??

I would say its a 50-50 chance - depends how far along they are with reviewing the file. If they are very close to issuing the visa it will most likely be extended - that being said, it really depends on the officer and what they deem necessary.

I suggest you email them : 'damascus-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca'

Ensure you include your spouse's full name, date of birth and indicate his B file number in the subject line.
