HELLO, everyone,
This is my first post ;)
I've been sneaky all along which I wanting to apologize
I've learned so much from ALL your amazing comments, it helped me so much with my own application process :-*
This forum really helped me to release all the stress I'd all along when no one else understand my situation.
It has been a sick 10 years that I've been living in Canada waiting for this day to come true.
I was alone by myself in Canada since I turned 15, as international student.
Graduated from a University in Canada and now working as a secretary under post graduation work permit.
I hope all this info would help all the ppl who are still waiting for decision from CIC
let me know if something I can help to answer

i am planing to cross the US border sometime this week. did you apply for PR card there? what kind of question did officer ask?
probably i will come down to Coutts(i used to live in Lethbridge so). did you pay any fee?
i dont know maybe i should phone CIC to make an appointment for inland process. we will see.

Thank you.
I've also tried to call CIC service phone line to book an appointment. But I would suggest you to just go to the US border and come back in.
I called CIC officer earlier last month to try to book an appointment inland, however, I needed to call them like 40times before I finally able to speak to one of their representative (their phone line was so busy that they just keep telling you to try to call again later) :-\

The week later, I received an letter in the mail from CIC that they scheduled me for an interview in Calgary but is in Oct on the day I couldn't leave work. That's when I decided to just go to the border and come back.

What you need to do is simple, just join the line up to the US border first, after you pass the border, make a U turn back to Alberta to
meet the border officer. Tell them you are there for your landing. They will then give you a yellow form and ask you to park your car and walk inside the immigration office to meet an officer. Mine was unbelievably easy. They DID NOT ask me any question, just took away my two copies of CPR, passport and PGWP. When the officer returned, he just asked me to sign on the two forms and gave me back a copy of CPR and asked me to go to service Canada to get my SIN card renew. That was it!! ;D ;D ;D Simple, Simple
However, I've seen ppl where asked for bank statement, employment & schooling information and some other personal questions. So be prepared.
I've already paid all the fees earlier when I applied. Therefore, didn't need to pay anything when I was there at the border immigration office
GOOD LUCK

1) took about 8 mths for me from the day I submitted out my application until the day I received my confirmation of PR. but certainly it may varies by individual depending on your post secondary degree/job title/ background check/ medical exam results/ the completion of documents/ how fast do you response to them...
The average length of processing time suggested on CIC website is 15 months.
2)Since applying for nominee takes a bit more time (submit to provincial first then to CIC) If you are eligible for both. Personally think the current CEC is faster. The downside is, skilled worker under CEC needs IELTS exam but provincial nominee may not need the English test.
3) your eligibility for PR will for sure depending on your job title/ job description/ employment letter/work experience/your wage comparing to the average rate of earning in the same job market and the other factors as above. MAKE SURE you use the RIGHT words and descriptions when applying. Do not let immigration suspect your job title.
4) I applied for CEC in Alberta, but I don't think it would matter.
5) after PR, you do need to spend 3 years out of 5 years in Canada before you are able to apply for citizenship, then you can apply for passport. The good news is, the previous 4 years before you are granted PR, each day counted as half day toward your 3 years living in Canada.
6) PR can not vote and does not have Canadian passport.
cheers

Personally I went to the border to land last week. The only question was if any status (dependent and criminal charges) changed. I answered NO and waited about 5-10 minutes. Then I signed two copies of CPR and done.

Hey Albertans, when you say "go to the border" do you mean literally driving all the way down to Montana? For some reason, I thought that you'd be able to go to the airport and do the landed thing there. The border's about 8 hours from Edmonton and I definitely don't want to drive there if I get my PR over the winter.
