Hi, I just got my visa (FSW category), Planning to move to Canada in Aug/Sep. Could anyone please suggest me the best cheap city to live in with any computer related job? I can move to a place which is at least at 30 minutes from main job location.
I have thought of following locations.

St Albert (30 minutes from Edmonton)
Edmonton
Calgary

Please help me with a city, which has cheapest rentals for an apartment 1or 2 bedrooms. (From above 3 or any other city in any other province.

I don't know much about IT jobs but to tell you honestly, unless an employer have given you a contract stating you will be working for them right then and there when you land, its hard. You'll be arriving nearing winter and its harsh out here. Keep in mind all businesses in edmonton and calgary are tied with oil. I for one went back to school after oil companies have shut down work. Many people lost their jobs and hiring are frozen on oil and gas.
Take this with a grain of salt, wait until the economy/ oil rebounds back and people starts to run them oil rigs until you start your settlement. Its hard for immigrants because of many folks here never recognize credentials done outside. I don't want you to end up loosing all your hard earned money to pay for utilities and rent and in return your working as part time in some menial odd job or maybe your not working at all.

This is the reality here friend.

Goodluck and G d bless.

@gagsv, St. Albert/Sherwood Park/Fort Saskatchewan are suburbs/towns around the city of Edmonton. From a cost of living point of view, you can look at sites such as padmapper.com, navut.com and kijiji.ca to get an idea on rents and availability. Calgary is around 3-hours south of Edmonton, so you will have to pick one over the other.

Look at this at a financial point of view. Yes you can live off at suburbs, and yes you'll need a car to be mobile.
How much insurance you think he'll pay for it? Add that to rent, utilities and gas is cheap though so tick that off. Minus your bring in money for 3 months. Then you'll better find a salary job fast!
No job? Go for odd ones.
In 3 months time he will bankrupt himself.

Please advise a person reasonably.

Cheers!

Edgar Poe, I am assuming your request to "Advise a person reasonably" is made to me. So, please allow me to retort.

OP has:

1. Asked about "best cheap city to live in with any computer related job" - a very broad question that is outside my domain of experience, so did not reply.

2. Stated willingness to "move to a place which is at least at 30 minutes from main job location" - that will vary with job location/availability and other factors, and based on observations on other threads, also a lightning rod for thread hijacking as irrelevant posts creep in (hint hint).

3. Specifically asked for help in choosing "From above 3 or any other city in any other province". My response was centered around (3) since I live in Edmonton, and even then, I felt it better to direct to sites which typically can provide more data than asking anonymous folks on a thread.

FWIW, the financial elements you highlight can be applicable in the best of times and the worst of times. Did your response to my post correspond to anything the OP was asking? You stated your ignorance of the IT market in your initial response, so are you adding any value to the conversation, apart from voicing an opinion which a majority of us are aware of, and in some cases (like yourself) experiencing personally?

It appears that you want to engage in an argument for the sake of it (the more relevant term is of course trolling, but I am giving you the benefit of doubt) - I am not in the mood for that, but if you want to go ahead then fill your boots.
