Company transfer - Open WP or LMIA

Hi, my spouse has a valid Canadian open WP based on my study permit. He is currently woking in Asia. Can he get a transfer to Canadian office based on his open WP or does the employer need to get LMIA done? Also if he is working as an independent consultant, will that qualify for Canadian experience? Thanks

He does not need an approved LMIA. He already has an open work permit so he is good to go.

If he is working as a self-employed independent consultant, this will NOT qualify as Canadian work experience under CEC.
