Hello All,

So my company outright denied providing an experience letter. I spoke to my manager and he seems to be hesitant of providing a reference letter even on plain paper. He is asking me to write a self declared experience on which he is willing to sign. Will this be okay guys? Experts pls pls help.

I know of at least one case where the applicant used a self declaration and got PPR. His username is pssid. Having said that this is not a guaranteed approach as it depends on the case officer also.

Please refer to this link for the details on the same http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/nail-the-challenge-of-getting-reference-letter-from-current-employer-t397796.30.html

In your case, I would suggest the following:
1. Get the self declaration with your manager's signature, copy his employee identity card and business card.
2. Also try to see whether your company has advertised any position similar to yours where the duties and responsibilities have been mentioned. It could be either on company website, LinkedIn, any job site etc. Take a printout of the same and attach it with your self declaration.
3. Prepare a Letter of Explanation stating why you cannot get a reference letter from HR/manager and state what proactive action you have taken in this regard, submit the fore mentioned documents along with all employment related documents, offer letter/appointment letter/salary slips/appraisal letter etc etc.

All the best!

Thank you Stanlee.. One question, in case I provide all these documents and the imigration officer is not satisfied, will he just reject only that comapnie's experience (refuse to consider that as a valid experience ) or will my application on the whole be rejected? Pls advice..

Personally, I feel that it should not be a problem as your manager is also signing the self declaration and you are submitting his business card and identity card copy. I would suggest you to get this declaration with your manager's signature to be notarized. In the worst case, if the case officer is not satisfied with the documents, then he may ask for more supporting evidence or may sometimes call up your manager/employer to confirm. If at that time the case officer gets a satisfactory confirmation, then you you will be fine.

Coming back to your question, no there is no partial rejection of the application - either your application is approved or rejected. But, if you submit all the fore mentioned documents with an LOE, you should be good.

Hi Stanlee,

Thank you once again for the reply. Actually I have already left the company. I have got the self declared reference letter with the managers signature. I can request him to mail me a copy of his employee card. Other than that it would be very difficult for me to obtain any other documents, even a signature from an HR would be difficult.

My experience in this company is of 1 year. Before that I had 2 years of experience for which I do have the reference letter in perfect format. Please advice if it would make sense to risk adding the extra one year experience with the available documents.

When I was referring to other documents, I was referring to offer letter/appointment letter/promotion letter/appraisal letter/relieving letter/payslips/ bank statements showing salary credit/employee id card etc etc. These documents you will definitely have, these in addition to the self declaration are more than enough to prove your work experience.

As an additional evidence, I would suggest you to print off the communication (e-mail) from the your manager and/or HR which show the reasons for not issuing an experience letter. Also, explain in the LOE about including this communication evidence in your file.

This will help the case officer that you have done what you had to convince your previous employers
