Guys I have a question, back in summer me and my partner spent 1 week apart. I knew it wouldn't be a problem but still wanted to make sure and asked immigration. The guy on the phone told me "We ask you if you live together or not, we don't ask you to not go on a vacation" He didn't even ask me how long we were apart. So this is ok but my partner went to Australia recently for 2 weeks. We will apply when he comes back. So he went and I didn't because he had a free plane ticket, I didn't and I need a visa to go to Australia which I can't apply here in Canada and I have to go back to Turkey to do that and wait for like 2 months to get the visa... And his free ticket was about to expire so I told him to go. Now my question is should I write a letter to explain this situation? On the other hand they can't gather this information unless they contact Canadian Border Services, and if they do and think it is a problem they will probably contact me and I don't want to overwhelm them with unnecessary information. What do you guys think?

So basically for an inland application they care about two things regarding cohabitation:

1. That at some point you lived together for 1 year continuously and thereby entered a common law union.

2. That you cohabit during the application in Canada

For both the occasional time apart is ok as long as it doesn't happen frequently and you aren't apart for too long on any of these occasions. The forum's consensus seems to be that 2 weeks are absolutely fine.

No need to mention this really unless specifically asked, in my opinion.

A 2 week break should be fine. No need to explain.

Also, of course they have the information. They don't need to request it from CBSA.

Thank you guys! That's what I thought! I'm just a little paranoid, you know like everybody else who is dealing with immigration...
