So to try to make things brief, I am a PR living in Canada on route to citizenship. Canada is home, I love Canada and I want to stay here.
Been with my partner for a few years now and have been in a serious relationship. We put in an common-law application while she's in her own country and it says it has been approved and she already has done her medicals.
Over the past couple of months though we have been thinking about things seriously. Both her parents are old and have been diagnosed with life threatening illnesses this year and so she decided to stay with them as they have no other family to look after them. Me of course realistically I can't move there with her since I don't speak her language and the country has a very complex immigration system and doesn't really have immigrants since they make up less than 1% of the population.
Sure she can come to Canada and live with me but I know and she knows she's going to be living here with constant worry and regret.
So what steps do I do now? Because I've already included her in this years taxes since we are common-law. We hired a lawyer for all of this but because it's a public holiday so I won't get an answer until tomorrow probably so I am asking here for now.
So now I am just wondering the steps I should take to finalize this? She says it's fine and that down along the line a couple of years from now she might go to Canada to use her PR since theres the 2 year rule. However I've read briefly in the past that she's supposed to be financially dependent on me and that we should consider ourselves common-law?
It's all too confusing so I'm wondering if anybody knows more. Thanks.
