Common-law partner question

Hello everyone! Thank you for a great forum, I really hope you can help me with something that's been bothering me for a while as well Smiley

My partner is planning to study in Canada next year, so we both want me to come with her as a common-law partner for as long as her studies last (1 year). We have been living together in the same apartment for 3 consecutive years and our rent lease shows both our names on all of the lease contracts. In addition the apartment we are renting is actually called "apartment for couples", since we are renting it from a company that rents apartments only to students. (There are two types of apartments, either for single persons or couples). It should be no problem to request a proof from this company to show that we have been actually living together for the past 3 consecutive years.
Also in addition, the renting company sends a bill (that includes both rent and utility) to my partner's bank account each month. I usually just transfer half of the amount to her's bank account and she pays a total fee.

However, here is a problem. Since we started living together, I never changed my legal address to a new apartment, so all my mail has been going to my parent's house for all this time. Can this be a problem? (In my country(Iceland) it's very common for people to have a parent's address as their legal address).

Looking forward to hear from you,
Thank you
