hi!

me and my bf , we were planning to apply for common law PR for me next week, and we thought to get married sometime around September as we were saving up some money to have a nice ceremony. But now that we have to move to Vancouver by May for work, we've decided we wanna got married asap so our family and friends can all attend while we are still in Toronto, even if its a simple ceremony. Should i still apply for common law sponsorship - or should we wait until after marriage and apply right after we get our marriage certificate, while already being in BC?
We've been together two years, living together for a year and a half.

It's up to you. You can certainly still apply common law if you want, but putting together the application is a bit more laborious, as they require a lot more proof of cohabitation than if you apply as married. If you've already put the work into gathering the proof you need for your common law app and you're ready to submit it, you may as well do so. But if you haven't started it yet and plan to get married in the next month or two, I'd wait and apply as married.

If we do get married now and apply right after, should we explain we did so because we wanted to do it here before move? Dont want it to look rushed, but it kinda is rushed now as we have to be in Vancouver by May 1st:)

If you've been together for two years they won't think it's rushed unless you tell them. :p

You don't need to explain anything.

Note that you won't actually be able to apply right after, as you have to wait for the marriage certificate. In Ontario, it can take awhile.
