Hi. I have been here since 2016. Came on visitor visa (aus). Lived with my partners mother until march 2018. Never signed lease agreement since i never paid her (should we sign one now? Just so we have this document at least? Should I get it notarised if so?) but we didnt have real prove until may 2017(made a joint bank acc) and got a license in june. I then got a working holiday iec and have been working since Jan 2018. Now we have a lease agreement from new place, joint bank, declaration of common law, license address, and filed 2017 tax as common law. WHEN should we start our application ?? Since our solid proof wasnt til 2017 may from bank should I start app in march2019, one year after we lease the new place? We are planning on going to Vancouver soon so we will have even more proof since we're gonna travel together but just wondering if best time to apply is next year for more solid proof? Plz advice (edit:my status expires 2019 Aug .)

Hi there,

You can apply as common law if yiunhave lived together in the same address for at least 1 year. It actually doesn't matter WHEN you got the documents as proof of cohabitation and lease, as long as you have them.
