Common Law getting a Work Permit

Hello.

I am a brazilian student going to apply for Fall 2018 as a undergraduate in some top universities of Canada, I already study at undergraduate level in my home country, but I have good reasons to want to study in canada(better environment, higher level education, no worries about violence around the campi, among others), however, seeing the myriad cases where people got rejected because of "purpose of visit", I am afraid that I might get in trouble with that as well.

I want to lower my chances the most possible for that to happen, and I want to know whether having my common-law partner apply for a open work permit to help me finnancially might make them think I want to actually stay there and hurt my chances.

Thanks in advance.
