Hello,

I am currently in the process of filling in the documents to sponsor my partner as common-law.
There is a bit of confusion on my part regarding some of the terms and statuses.

My partner and I started living together Sept 6 of last year. Are we already considered common-law partners? Or is there something preceding the official status?
Specifically, on the form 1344, "is there a co-signer on this application (the common-law partner of the sponsor)"?

Am my partner already a common-law partner and therefore a co-signer of this document? Even though the document is to sponsor this very same person?

Please and thanks!!!

If you have lived together for 12 months without breaks then you would be common law now.

There is only a cosigner if there are kids involved in the application

Thank you for your response bian07!

I have a separate question:
Currently filling in IMM0008 with my partner.

For her country of residence, it would be Canada from Sept 06, 2019 until when ??? Submission date? Some future date?

bump! Please help!
I think you would just put something along the lines of ‘ongoing’ although I don’t recall exactly what we put. I wouldn’t put the date you submit or your planned date to leave as that could be confusing/misleading to the officer.

As it's a PDF with a preset input, I am unable to validate the document unless I have a specific date....

Ah ok gotcha. We submitted the required info to our rep who completed the forms and then had us sign off on them but I don’t recall what we entered I’m afraid.
